Samantha Fish working on acoustic album

Samantha Fish has started work on an acoustic album that she hopes will demonstrate she’s capable of much more than the blues she’s already known for.

And one of the reasons for stretching her own boundaries is that she doesn’t believe the genre should remain static.

Fish tells the Daily Record: “It’s going to be something different for me. I think it’s an honest evolution of where I’m at.”

The undated release, featuring a selection of session musicians, follows third album Wild Heart, launched last year.

“I felt that I was writing songs that I wanted to write,” she says. “I didn’t feel that I had to fit into a box. It’s a raw, honest record.”

And no matter where her career takes her, she’ll always retain an admiration for the greats. “I don’t play the kind of blues that Muddy Waters played, but I can be inspired by Muddy Waters,” she says.

“I can be inspired by B.B. King. I can be inspired by Buddy Guy. Some people want to hear the blues in a certain way – I’m not like that. As long as we accept growth and chance, the blues will survive.”

Fish is currently touring the US.

Not only is one-time online news editor Martin an established rock journalist and drummer, but he’s also penned several books on music history, including SAHB Story: The Tale of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, a band he once managed, and the best-selling Apollo Memories about the history of the legendary and infamous Glasgow Apollo.
