Slipknot guitarist Jim Root offers fans a track-by-track insight into latest album .5: The Gray Chapter in a DVD to be released this week.

It’s the latest instalment of Fret12’s The Sound And The Story series, which features Root breaking down his playing, while also taking viewers behind the scenes in the studio and on tour.

In the trailer below, he recalls how he tried to channel late bassist Paul Gray as he worked on the album, saying: “If it weren’t for the memory of Paul and Paul’s mentality, I wouldn’t have been able to write the way I wrote.”

Jim Root: The Sound And The Story - .5: The Gray Chapter is released on April 8 and it’s available for pre-order on DVD and as a download. Slipknot tour North America with Marilyn Manson and Of Mice & Men starting in June.

He’s appeared on TV and when not delving intro all things music, can be found travelling along the UK’s vast canal network.
