Prince was cremated at a private ceremony over the weekend, a spokesperson has confirmed.
His cause of death will not be known for several weeks.
The musician was found dead on April 21 at his Paisley Park studio and home in Minnesota at the age of 57. He’d recently been receiving medical attention, although the only official comment stated that he’d been suffering from flu.
Publicist Anna Meacham says: “Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye.
“Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends.
“The cause of death remains unknown and it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy.”
A musical memorial is being planned, Meacham added.
Investigating officials have said there were “no obvious signs of trauma” on Prince’s body, and that there was “no reason to believe” his death was suicide.
Meanwhile, his brother-in-law Maurice Phillips says Paisley Park could be turned into a museum, adding: “This would remember his music, which is his legacy. Prince was always private, but he’d have wanted his music remembered.”
