Of Mice & Men's Austin Carlile: Pain is a big part of my life

Of Mice & Men vocalist Austin Carlile says new song Pain lends insight into his personal journey over the past few years

Of Mice & Men's Austin Carlile says he wrote the band's latest song Pain because the emotion has defined a "big part" of his life.

The band recently issued a video for the track, which is lifted from their upcoming fourth album Cold World.

The vocalist tells Alt Press: "It talks about my personal journey of the last few years and how I relate that to the current state of the world that we live in now. People face pain every day, whether it be physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, metaphysically, metaphorically – everything.

"It’s something we wanted to touch on because it’s been such a big part of my life and pain in general has been something I have been living and breathing for the past 12, 15 years."

Carlile also says he's looking forward to Of Mice & Men's tour with Slipknot and Marilyn Manson later this summer. He also reveals their upcoming record will include songs that only employ clean vocals.

He adds: "It gave us an opportunity to get our foot in that door of music that still makes me want to scream my face off. We have songs on the new album that do that, but there are also songs that may not have any screaming because there doesn’t need to be.

"If I’m screaming on the record, it’s because I’m pissed about what I’m screaming about. It’s really important for us to paint that picture for the listener."

Of Mice & Men also recently announced a European tour which kicks off in September.
