The Sweet’s Andy Scott is celebrating after the group’s classic hit Fox On The Run reached No.1 on the iTunes Top 40 US Rock Songs chart.

The song, recorded in 1974, features in the trailer for upcoming superhero film Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 – leading to a surge in online sales. Fox On The Run appeared on The Sweet’s third album Desolation Boulevard.

Scott tells Classic Rock: “It’s great. And it shows that we weren’t completely wrong when we were all together in the 70s and writing the song. It’s stood the test of time.

“I have been told that it might make it into the US Billboard chart too, which will be odd as I hardly recognise the name of any of the bands in that chart today.

“It shows there’s still a place for nostalgia.”

Scott adds that time will tell whether the movie will help get The Sweet “bigger” gigs in 2017, but he says that either way he’s pleased that it’s reaching a new audience.

As for the film itself, Scott says: “Maybe somebody might give me a call and invite me to the opening night. That would be nice.”

Earlier this year, The Sweet’s track The Ballroom Blitz featured in another superhero film – Suicide Squad.

The Sweet tour the UK with Bay City Rollers this month and also play two headline shows.
