Mastodon: Watch video showing making-of Emperor Of Sand

Mastodon release behind-the-scenes footage from Emperor Of Sand sessions - highlighting Brent Hinds guitar work

Mastodon have released a behind-the-scenes video showing them working on upcoming album Emperor Of Sand.

The new clip focuses on guitarist Brent Hinds and his work on the album which will launch on March 24 – with drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor heaping praise on his friend and bandmate.

Dailor says: “Brent’s guitar playing is insane – it’s beautiful. He’s got that beauty and he’s got that originality. There’s nobody else like him. You can’t replicate it, you can’t duplicate it – no one can’t touch it."

He adds: "His solos are really just amazing on this album. There’s a whole bunch of them and they all sound unique. I think he’s gone above and beyond.”

The video shows Hinds laying down tracks for the album, along with humorous interviews with him dressed up as an astronaut – and talking about having to scrap his idea for a one-note solo as he had to “branch out.”

Mastodon are the cover stars of the new issue of Metal Hammer, while artists including Rammstein, Ghost, Volbeat, Creeper, Machine Head and Behemoth frontman Nergal also feature.

The band also appear in the new issue of Classic Rock, which is also available now.

Mastodon will head out on the road from next month across North America. They’ll then return to Europe in June for several dates, including an appearance at the UK’s Download festival.
