Anathema premiere new track Springfield

Anathema release studio video showcasing their new track Springfield - taken from upcoming album The Optimist

Anathema have released a video for their new track Springfield.

It’ll feature on their upcoming album The Optimist, which will be released on June 9 via Kscope – the follow-up to 2014’s Distant Satellites.

Guitarist and keyboardist Daniel Cavanagh says: “Here we present the song Springfield. It’s actually the song that closed our unforgettable Wembley gig with Opeth and it seemed to be a track that just fell into place without much effort. It seemed to do itself.

“The song forms part of a narrative that runs through The Optimist album – a narrative that begins where A Fine Day To Exit left off. The album is a journey. The songs are ambiguous. There is no right or wrong way to take them. Make of them what you will.”

Daniel and Vincent Cavanagh, along with drummer John Douglas, singer Lee Douglas, bassist Jamie Cavanagh and keyboardist Daniel Cardos recorded The Optimist over the winter with producer Tony Doogan.

And Vincent previously revealed that Doogan’s influence on the album was invaluable.

He said: “He suggested that we record as a live band, which we hadn’t done for years. Having played a few tunes on the last tour, we were ready for that.

“Tony wanted to capture that energy you can only get with everyone facing each other – it makes a big difference. He was a superb guy to work with and I learned a lot making this record.”

Anathema have also announced a headline tour of Europe, where they'll be joined by Alcest. Find the new dates highlighted in bold below.
