Metallica step in to help tribute band after theft

After $20,000 worth of Blistered Earth’s gear is stolen in Portland, Metallica save the day by replacing missing items

Metallica have stepped in to help a tribute band after their gear was stolen following a show last weekend.

Blistered Earth had an estimated $20,000 worth of equipment taken from The Chestnut Tree Inn in Portland after they had played a show in the city.

And after hearing about the theft, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich contacted Blistered Earth to offer to help.

The band’s Jared Kiess tells Koin.com: “We’ve had our gear broken into before where they just cut the lock, so we got a pretty impenetrable lock. But this time obviously they couldn’t get in that way so they just took the entire trailer.”

He adds: “Lars asked for a list of gear, which we provided. Obviously, this kind of thing is going to take time, so we aren’t expecting a pile of gear to show up on our doorsteps.

“But we are beyond thrilled, and pleasantly surprised by the fact that they even heard the story, much less that they made such an offer.

“It is incredibly humbling and gives us even greater respect for the band pay tribute to every night.”

In 2016, Metallica gave permission for Canadian tribute band Sandman to use their logos for a fee of just $1 – which the thrash giants then paid themselves after a legal mix-up.

Metallica will head back out on the road from next month on the North American leg of their WorldWired tour in support of Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. They’ll then return to Europe in September, with shows planned into 2018.
